Historic Yu-Gi-Oh!
OSY (Old School Yu-Gi-Oh!) Format, is a fan format in the style of Historic Magic the Gathering, created and managed by us at HOUDINI. The Premise of HOUDINI Format is simple. It's the Goat Format Cardpool, without Delinquent Duo, with 100 additional cards, plus 25 card added every 6 months. This additional cardpool aims to retain the back and forth, slower paced gameplay of formats like Goat format, while offering something wholly unique that doesn't replace classic formats. This also doesn't mean we aim to retain purity of Yu-Gi-Oh! as it was in 2005, 6 or 7. This is a new format that retains the best of the old, with the spice of the new. OSY (pronounced Ozzy) Format has a few additional rules changes compared to Goat format:
The Goat format banlist will take precedence over newly introduced cards. ie, if X card is broken because of Trunade being at 3, then X card will be banned, not Trunade.
- Delinquent Duo is banned. This is the only change to the Goat format banlist.
- Counters (ie Spell Counters, A-Counters, Thunder Counters) are generic, a counter is a counter.
- Turn 2 Player can activate 1 of the designated Field Spells from their hand or deck at the start of the duel.
- Uses Master Rules 1 (July 12, 2011 Rules)
- Strong focus on expanding selection of Rogue decks over nerfing Meta-decks.
- Living, Legacy Format. New cards will be added via packs. The first pack will release August 1st 2024.
- Fusions remain the "main" extra deck summoning mechanic, however, Synchro and Xyz Monsters are added, but sparingly and with significantly less power than their Modern incarnations or Edison/Tengu era introductions.
